This
is a great instruction on using a Head Knife.
Many thanks to Ron Ross for his contribution.
Additional Comments:
Hello,
I read with interest the segment about use of the Head Knife. When I joined the
family leather mfg. business in 1957 ,the year it celebrated its centennial, I learned
from the cutter who had been there since the early 1900s, that in order to minimize
accidents caused if and when the knife slipped, that if I held the elbow of my knife arm
in TIGHT to my waist, that, in case of a slip, the arm could not move forward far enough
to do damage; a rule that has saved me from many an accident either slashing through the
wrong part of the hide or into my own hand or arm. Please pass this on to your
readers.
Sincerely,
Bill Lawrence (Geo. Lawrence Co., est. Portland, Or. 1857) bill3rd@teleport.com
